We have removed the link to Dealing with Brexit legal issues from the top of the matter plans as the changes are no longer urgent. The publication remains in the Reference Materials folder of the Practice Management guide for reference.

In the light of the UK Government’s Living with COVID-19 plan the Dealing with legal issues during COVID-19 publication has been amended and updated. This helpful resource can be found at the top of every matter plan and covers a wide range of issues.

Most of the requirements for possession claims set out in Practice Direction 55C are no longer in force, and our commentaries have been amended accordingly.

Court of Protection applications have been given their own guide containing commentary on making an application, deprivation of liberty, managing and terminating a deputyship. The matter plan contains all the letters and forms necessary for this work.

Two new precedent Deeds of Easement have been made available on the Sale of Land matter plan: a general deed of easement which can be adapted to suit the grant of standard rights between grantor and grantee; and a deed of easement which incorporates mutual obligations for positive covenants to run with land.

n response to a user request, we have compiled four example content documents covering the four most common concise financial remedy orders: Concise clean break order with one joint account to close and one property to be sold; Concise clean break order with a lump sum payment, one pension to be shared and one property to be transferred; Concise order with spousal maintenance, one pension to be shared and one property to be transferred; and Concise Mesher order for deferred sale. The paragraphs in the Clauses for a Financial remedy order (The Orders Project - Financial Remedy Omnibus) can be used to supplement the new concise orders to cater for more complex situations. Following user feedback we have published two new drafted commercial leases which are available on the Commercial Lease - Acting for Landlord matter plan. In addition to the Law Society standard leases, we now have a new commercial lease drafted in By Lawyers plain English style. The Commercial lease - Optimised presentation is formatted to present matter-specific information in the initial pages of the document, with the boiler-plate clauses which need no amendment in the following pages. A new Commercial lease - Standard presentation is also available. The commentary has also been updated with a discussion of the reasons why the optimised style is more useful for clients and practitioners - not least because all the amendments take place within the first few pages of the lease. Both styles contain all the lease considerations that are usually required.
